What is Pie-Bald?
I still don't get what pie-bold or whatever it's called is. Is it when an animals get randomwhite colouration on it? in rings and weird shapes?
Re: What is Pie-Bald?
kind of. Its just when part of an animals body has an overlying layer of white pigmentation, i think thats what it is.
I mean i know what it is, but i dunno what causes it (i mean genetics obviously) but you know what i mean, i odn't know what causes it scientifcally, in terms of why it happens.

Re: What is Pie-Bald?
hahaha it's okay I don't understand all the genetic talk anyway..
i think it would be great if one day, if you had the time of course, if you could make a quick guide to the basic genetics of leopard geckos.. it would help me a lot.. i don't get all this 'het' stuff :P
I think I know what a pie bald is now though at least I got that part :P

Re: What is Pie-Bald?
Piebald is best described as a white base with blotches of color here and there sporadically. I believe it has to be less that 10-20% of the broken color.
Re: What is Pie-Bald?
Nah that is only piebald in its most extreme cases through line breeding.
Piebald starts off as a small white blotch on an animal and through breeding begins to cover the animals, like some of the crazy pied snakes you can get which are covered in white. But with corn snakes pied is still reasonably new and still growing.

Re: What is Pie-Bald?
Yeah I thought that too Jordan... because I seached pics of pie bald snakes last night.. and it looks as if colour pigment was just missing in patterns is that why it occurs? I think that may be why.
Re: What is Pie-Bald?
in royals they have 3different percentages of pied high white, medium white and low white pied which results in big price differences.

Re: What is Pie-Bald?
Yeah in corns, the pied bit normally comes up from the belly.
And the price is determined on how far up it comes from the belly.
People sell them labelled 'High Expression Pied - Sided...'
or Low, or medium obviously.
you can even get pied horses! haha
*split to morphs and genetics*

Re: What is Pie-Bald?
Just about all animals come in piebald coloration. American bulldogs, well all bulldogs come in pied, horses, cats, frogs, snakes, rabbits... pretty much anything that can produce a broken color pattern.
