Hey from NW PA USA
Hey all... I just thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Kellee but my friends usually call me just Kel or even Kermit (a play on my french canadian heritage or so they say ) Any of those are fine with me
I am an animal behavior specialist, I specialize in dogs, specifically canine communication, pack dynamics, and aggression disorders. I have worked in this field for 17 years. I also raise and show netherland dwarf rabbits with my 2 sons.
We also have currently in our repitoire of pets 5 dogs, about 20 rabbits, 1 leopard gecko, 1 ball python, 1 mediterranean gecko, and a gerbil colony (for the ball python of course). In the near future I am looking to add a barred tiger salamander, and possibly a white's tree frog or a white lipped tree frog (my son can't decide which he wants yet).
I may be a little like a fish out of water being US member on a mostly UK board so please bear with me as I get the hang of the UK slang, and maybe bring a little of my American flavor to the boards. I look forward to getting to know everyone and being able to help where I can.
Peace

Hello Kermit, great nickname by the way!
I've had various rabbits at different times, but l found last time I had them that I was allergic to sawdust so the rabbits had to be found new homes
Yet somehow I'm fine with the aspen for my cornsnakes, and the hemp for the corns and the chickens!

Awww rex's are gorgeous. their fur is soooo amazingly soft ... guinea pigs are cute ^^ I love the sound they make.. when I had some of them, i used to love when I went to the shed to get their feed out... they used to squeak REALLY loud because they were getting excited XD
... and Kermit, your bunnies are sooo adorable. I think there's nothing cuter than a baby rabbit :3 ..
I'm sad because my neighbour has offered me a baby bunnie .. and my mom won't let me have it .. but once I start bringing the rabbit home with me, she will say yeah. no-one can say no to a tiny baby rabbit
I won't be able to breed the baby when it's older (with my rabbits unless it's male) because it is related to my male rabbits.
Me and my neighbour went to get our rabbits at the same time around 3 years ago.. i picked a silver/grey lionhead and she got an albino rex .. since then we have bred them twice.. I own a male from the first litter. My neighbour kept a male from the second litter for her grandson.. and was planning on getting him neutared (i dont think I spelt that correctly) but was too late and they have had a litter
btw... i love the second photo you posted ^ ^ netherland dwarfs have adorable little ears!
Re: Hey from NW PA USA
Those 2 are actually brother and sister from 2 different litters. The first one is Zsa Zsa... and the second is her brother Igor from the following litter
Rex babies are soft. That pic is actually a mini rex netherland cross. We were breeding "velveteen netherlands" for some local buyers for easter bunnies. Great temperaments lovely fur good size. Just a nice combo.
and a lil help on the spelling... neutered you were that close In the US Guinea pig keepers refer to that noise as a WHEEK... I use to have a guinea pig too

He needed a LOT of haircuts or he was like a walking dust mop.

Re: Hey from NW PA USA
hahaha i like' WHEEK' .. i've never described a guinea-pigs sound before now lol. I've always wanted a long haired guinea pig.. it looks lovely. but i've got 3 long haired bunnies soo i think i'll be okay
i realllly hope i get to keep this baby albino rex if its a boy.. i can breed it with my female lionheads because they are new and they are not related to my other rabbits. yayyy i can't wait to see if they will breed this year with my male lionhead last year they were young and they didn't let him mate.

Re: Hey from NW PA USA
Something to realise if you get into breeding rabbits, linebreeding is a BIG part of making them nicer and very common in most rabbit breeding programs. It's how top breeders get some of their best rabbits. Breeding related rabbits is not taboo except when it comes to brother/sister parings.
Re: Hey from NW PA USA
Yeah, I know that they breed relatives with one another... but these babies will be... well, their dad is a cross of my male lionhead and my neighbours rex.. and their mom is the neighbours rex. so my male lionhead is their grandad.
soo would I be able to breed a female baby with my male lionhead? hahahaha it's all confusing.

Re: Hey from NW PA USA
grandad and grandaughter is actually a good gap for a linebreeding program. It is usually suggested to breed mother back to son or father to daughter to secure type, then skip generations (like grandad to grandaughter) to refine type.
The only thing kinda frowned upon is brother and sister, in dwarf breeding circles anyway, other breeds I'm pretty sure it's the same. They say you can only breed brother and sister once, then you can not breed any of those offspring back to their mom or dad (the original brother and sister), because that's when you'll see lots of problems such as peanuts (under developed babies shows the double dwarfing gene) or max factors (born with their eyes open and feet all twisted inward ), and higher propencity for genetic defects.
Here's a good rabbit linebreeding chart that should help clear up the confusion
