hey drip yeah i am aware of the sand debate but it was housed in sand in the shop and it came with the set up i brought so will do for now and a plus note i came down last night after moving the viv to allow a proper night cycle as was worrried she wasnt getting that much darkness where she was and she was exploring for the first time sat on her hide then sleeping on her cool side so happy and woke to 2 missing crickets and a poo so definatly happy today

Hello Wolfbane Smile

Cleo is very cute! Congrats on getting her! Looks like she is a super hypo tangerine carrot tail. But its hard to tell about the tangerine part as the picture is kinda washed out. If you can get a clearer picture then we can get a proper morph ID.

I would trade out the sand for paper towel or tiling as soon as possible. Sand impaction is a very real issue with leopard geckos. Leopard geckos don't live on sand in the wild, so why keep them on sand in captivity?

Congrats on getting her to eat! Very Happy

I think you meant in captivity kathryn. Just because a pet shop had them that way does not mean that is whats best or proper. The forum is loaded with threads of leos coming from pet shops kept in sand with a myriad of problems now. Just like they recommend uv bulbs and red lights, all of which we know either are unneeded or can cause our leos undue stress. Simply placing your leo in a room with a window is all they need to establish their night cycle so additional lighting is unnecessary. This is just the pet shops uneducated way of getting you to spend more money on crap you don't need. Living on sands causes many issues, impaction being just one of them. Shedding problems, eye infections, skin irritation, humidity issues in your viv, gets in their ears... The list goes on and on... ANYTHING is better substrait than any type of particle substrait.

yes the shop did mention it but it came as a stater set up jobby he said it was my personal choice his at home are on paper and he told me i didnt need lights or anything fancy so i do kinda trust them had an issue today that sealed the swap my leos leg was poking under the hide i thought it was stuck so i lfted the hide to free her and she went into a crazy rage and bit the hide and ran about hissing , but since this she has been more active and exploring all her viv now not just hiding away hope she wasnt to stressed but is activly coming to the viv door when i come close now to check me out

Wolf self stick vinyl tile are just fine. There is NO off gassing from the glue, consider the temps in your viv are no higher than your body temp, you're not going to melt the glue just by holding it. The glue on most don't start to even melt till around 120*F depending on manufacturer. Vinyl are suggested as a VOC safe alternative flooring to some of the other options out there. They heat really well and I (and many other leo owners I know) have used them for YEARS with no averse effects to our herps. For more info check out the housing section sticky on making the perfect leo set up. That will clear everything up for you.

Here's my guess to the morph. It's not just hypo, but super hypo (because there are no spots). I've never been good, however, with guessing Carrot Tails or Tangerines; but in my inexperienced opinion with those morphs it looks like a Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tail to me, or SHTCT. Smile

But it has spots on its head, so wouldn't it just be a Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tail?
