Substrate?
Hey guys,
Well, in the midst of getting everything set up, I took everyones advice and got some of the peel and stick tile as substrate. There was not a large selection, but I got the ones that had the most texture to them. and seemed to be of good quality.
However, Kalani didn't seem to appreciate it. At all. She seemed to be having a hard time getting a "grip" on the surface, and most odd of all, would pick her feet/legs up off the floor. Afraid it would stress her out I set the tank aside and gave her one with paper towels.
So, what's up? Do I need to try and find a more "textured" tile? Excuse the bad wallpaper The gecko/hedgehog room will be the last one to be renovated.

Re: Substrate?
In my experience slate tiles give the best grip for your geckos, and the texture is rougher and more like a natural stone. But downside is they are usually thicker, heavier, and the surface isn't as easy to clean when compared to other tile options.
I've switched to unglazed ceramic tiles for all of my tanks personally. I like their thinner, lighter, and well heat conducting properties. Plus they are easier to clean as the surface is a bit smoother compared to slate, but not smooth enough where your geckos can't get a grip.
If you find your gecko sliding a lot or having difficulties moving around, or just feel that the gecko doesn't like the substrate, you could give slate or ceramic tiles a try.

Re: Substrate?
i was worried that my charm would have a hard time standing on the tiles as well (tho i found out she could walk fine on them before i did this to all of them) so what i did was i got a finer grade sand paper and just scrubbed the top of the tile a little to give it a better texture. if any one has impute on this please comment. good luck Adrian! ^_^
