Hiya Everyone!

Hiya! My name is Brittani and I hope to get a Leopard Gecko soon! Hopefully within a week. The name I chose for my future Gecko is Honda, because I like Honda cars haha. Are there any facts I need to know before I get a Leopard Gecko? I have done quite a bit of research but I am not sure if I should believe everything I read. What would be a good supply list?

You are supposed to like/love you gecko more than a car brand. If you were feeling that way, I bet you would have come up with another name for your future pet.
But if you don't feel that way - why get one?

I like, not love, the band Misfits, and I named my gecko Misfit. Does that mean I don't love him? Of course not I love that little booger with all my heart. Generally, people name their pets after something they like or love, like my horse, Batman. :P

I hope those help. With that being said, geckos are a lot more to handle then what any pet store will tell you, I learned a lot the first day I got a gecko thanks to this awesome site. You're looking at about 200-300$ with proper housing, heating, food and gecko when you first purchase. After all that they aren't costly unless you need to see a vet of course, but feeders are pretty cheap and calcium and multi vitamin should last you a good while with only one leo.

Just be sure after all the research you do that you are willing to give up possibly the next 20 years or even more of your life to care for your new leo properly as they are NOT a low maintenance pet.

It's very rewarding being a leo owner though. They're funny little creatures, and most don't mind being handled, in fact 2 of the 3 I have love it.

I'll just warn you that leopard geckos are VERY addicting. I started with one and now have 8 O_O

A few quick things:
-leos should NOT be on sand. Sand can cause impaction.
-leos need a under tank heater, NOT an overhead light. (they get their heat from their bellies not from basking
-leos are insectivores. they don't eat fruits or veggies and such.
-leos are from the desert but not sandy deserts. they are from rocky ground and dry compact earth.

What makes no sense are those names.
I don't find it right to call somebody's post rubbish just because it was a bit too honest.
And I definitely didn't mean to be rude, definitely. I just wondered why and couldn't help asking.
I hope Brittani would understand me differently than you did, get that gecko, love it as we do ours. We are all here for them after all and not to call other's people opinion rubbish.

You may have just been voicing your honest opinion but it wasn't asked for so you should keep it to yourself. Just because you don't approve of people naming their pets after cars or super heroes doesn't mean any off us aren't worthy of having pets. I know what you mean, I'm the same way, sometimes I say stuff to people that is just too critical because i'm just really passionate about my opinion not realizing that not everyone can take the heat even though I can! haha I think being brutally honest sometimes hurts my friends feeling :P
