Hyper Melanistic
All right ladies and gentleman, I got a genetics question for you all. I am wondering what I would get putting a male hyper melanistic with a Hypo Tang female? I have a really handsome boy here and am trying to figure out who he would go good, but I am not sure.
Here he is:
The picture doesn't really do him justice. My camera doe not take the best pictures but he is brown where he would be yellow if he were a normal and his spots are black. There are also many many spots on him. I have been researching his appearance because at first I thought h was a normal that didn't have proper heat but he is toasty warm now for the last three months and he is not getting any lighter in color, in fact he is a little darker at times.

Re: Hyper Melanistic
Well breeding him to a hypo tang would give you normals.
as Hyper and hypo are opposite, the hypo would dilute the hyper melanism.
And with just one gecko showing tangerine, you are unlikely to get anything tangerine out of it.
So pretty much normals.
If i were you i would find a really dark female for him, and line breed for even darker gecko's because thats what people are looking for at the moment.

Re: Hyper Melanistic
Yeah I am not sure what to do with him yet. I have some lovely ladies that will be ready next year. Maybe I will wait until then.
Re: Hyper Melanistic
Well, as it is a male it can go to more than one female.
So you have plenty of options.

Re: Hyper Melanistic
Very true. Right now about the only one that I have that is ready to breed and hasn't yet is the Hypo. Doesn't mean that just because they can, they should. I have had a couple ideas with her. I have a male that will be ready next year that has alot of orange on his tail so I am thinking of breeding him to her and then line breeding to see if I can eventually get a full carrot. Oh so many possibilities.
Re: Hyper Melanistic
Lol, well i wish you a hell of a lot of good luck as a full carrot could take years.
The only time i've seen a 100% full carrot is on regen tails. If a tail breaks off in the orange it all grows back orange.

Re: Hyper Melanistic
Yeah, it probably will never happen but you gotta have goals...right? Maybe I should try for half.....lol
Re: Hyper Melanistic
Well yes, its something to aim for certainly. But be prepared for a tough ride, and heck if you do hatch a few in a few years time, i'll probably buy one lol. It will surely be an impressive gecko.
Re: Hyper Melanistic
Now I think you are making fun of me....hehehe. Now I wanna make one just so you have to buy it...hahaha.
Re: Hyper Melanistic
Haha nooo...
But i would urge you to start with some pretty good carrot tails in the first place lol.
