help me decide on a incubator
i want to buy a new incubator the cheaper and the easier to use the better for me. ive found two that i like, the first one is the exo-terra thermo electric incubator, second one is zoo meds reptibator digital incubator. all the reviews that i have found say that both have there pro's and con's and they both cost about the same. id like to hear from people that have actually used them for leo eggs this is going to be my first time breeding and using a incubator. also im open to other incubator's that are about the same price thank you for any help.

Re: help me decide on a incubator
i say kemps! do yourself AND your animals a huge favor...if you are gonna breed, dont skimp on an incubator!!! the kemps are the best out there...the kemps krhb is 244.70 shipped in the united states...and if you are going to produce babies, it is well worth it....just dont skimp. if you cannot afford a good incubator, with all due respect, you should not breed. it always bothers me when i see the word "cheap"....if you are going to keep and breed, or even just keep reptiles, the word "cheap" should not be in your vocabulary, in my opinion. not trying to offend you, but keeping and breeding reptiles can be expensive, and if you are going to do this, you OWE it to your animals to take the best care of them as you possibly can. the kemps heats, and cools, and is a great incubator! the best out there in my opinion.

Re: help me decide on a incubator
it is NOT the same, and the internals are alot different. there is a reason the kemps are more expensive, you get what you pay for...i would not buy zoo med or exo terra anything personally...thats just me. i buy the BEST stuff out there for all of my reptiles....and will NEVER change that. i have skimped in the past, and a zoomed product costed me a fifteen hundred dollar baby chondro in the past, so i will only buy the best stuff out there, my animals desearve it....so they get it. i am not worried about saving a few bucks....and when you have to replace all or some of your animals, or loose fifty eggs, is it really worth "saving a few bucks?" ....that is how i look at it, because it has happened to me, and if you keep reptiles long enough, and use less than the absolute best equiptment, it WILL happen to you too...after all, if you are not preparred to spend the money, you should not have reptiles....this is NOT a cheap hobby.

Re: help me decide on a incubator
How much will you be incubating/hatching? Mini fridge style incubators are fine for starters, but if you will be incubating a lot of eggs, you will eventually want to move a step up. So it really depends on just how many leopard geckos you will be breeding.
For beginners and people not breeding many geckos, a hovabator will work great. Hovabator while following Albey's incubation techniques will get you incubating eggs on a low budget. This is a de factor standard for many beginner breeders for many years.
Mini fridge incubators would be needed for a small scale breeder, like me. I'm using MR-148 Pro from LLLReptile, but they discontinued it. I haven't had any problems with it, no overheating or under heating. If I'm to buy another incubator or an upgrade, I'm definitely going to go with nature spirit's. It's the perfect ideal upgrade from mini fridge style, the perfect mid-sized incubator. It isn't too expensive & too large as other incubators are made for large scale breeders. But it's large enough & high quality, it'll make a fine upgrade from the mini fridge style incubators.
Personally I wouldn't go with exo-terra for sure, as many people have reported their units malfunctioning and it overheating (thus cooking their eggs). I've also read some bad reviews on the zoo med one. So I would recommend against either of those 2 brands. They may seem like big brand names in reptile accessories. But when it comes to incubators, you best look for people that are fanatics at making the incubators right.
Rick suggested you a modded mini fridge style incubator. I'm not familiar with it, but a modded one may be worth the higher price as these big name brands are not producing good incubators.

Re: help me decide on a incubator
just a couple female gecko's. i have a little giant still air incubator but i think it's broke i put a probe from a digital thermometer into the incubator and turned it on the temp shot up to 90 i turned the incubator down till the temp stayed at 82. i unplugged the incubator and left the heat adjuster alone few hour's later i plugged it in and the temp shot up to 95 and stayed there for an hour till i unplugged it.
