Hi Guys,

My names Sam and i recently brought home my first leopard gecko, she is named Nyx (after the Greek goddess of the night) and although i know the basic elements of caring for a leopard gecko I'm still absorbing as much information on them as possible.

Hopefully i will see some of you around the forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome Very Happy

I don't own any other reptiles but my family has two dogs and two cats, I can't wait to take pictures of her but she has been hiding under her rock for the past day and a half and hasn't been eating, the guy at the pet store said that it's normal for a gecko to not eat for the first couple of days but it's starting to worry me. Thank you for the links to the care sheets, I will read them now Smile

don't worry about it, because she's in a new, strange environment she'll be quiet and nervous for the first couple of days and probably won't eat.. just keep trying but don't try and hold her for a while to let her get settled in Smile

No problem Smile Enjoy reading them! Smile and ohhh, you have to post pics of your dogs and cats, too! Very Happy

Hello and welcome to the forum!
My name is Kathryn, I hope you enjoy your time here! Very Happy

Sarah posted some great links you should definitely take a look at.
Be warned, leos are very addicting! I had one and now have five as well as other reptiles! :P

Leos generally won't eat for a few days after arriving at a new place. One of my leos went a week without eating before she finally settled in and ate.

What is your set-up like? Do you have an UTH? What do you use for substrate?

Again, welcome to the forum!

After reading your replies I feel much better about her shyness Very Happy my set up is a 18"x12" vivarium made of wood and glass, I thought it was on the small side when I saw it in the shop but the manager said its fine for one leopard gecko. I have a UTH and Repticarpet for substrate. She has two hides, a warm hide and a cool hide with moss. She has a dish for water and a dish for calcium and there are fake leafs at the back to hide the probe. She just came out of her hide now so im happy Very Happy

Sounds like you're doing great! Smile I would add one more hide though. You should have 3. One on the hot side, one on the cool side and one moist hide (the one with the moss, and it should be misted daily- it will help with shedding).

You're doing a great job! Very Happy I'm glad she came out for you too!

Oh, is it not ok to have the cool hide double as the moist hide? It's just that due to the size of the vivarium and the size of the two other hides I can't really fit another hide in without taking up most of the floor space Sad

The moist hide should be half on and half off the hot side. This allows it remain humid but not dry out.
I'm not sure about that, its probably best to have 3 hides. You could always make a humid hide and only put it in when your leo is shedding...

Tupperware containers are actually better in my experience. You take a tupperware container and cut a hole in it, and fill it with moss or paper towel and mist it. The tupperware holds the humidity better, IMO. Just a suggestion Wink

Awesome Smile is it ok to keep the moss in the hide on the cool side of the tank as well? She seems to really like it.

I can't really see a reason why not...
just make sure she isn't ingesting any, as it can cause impaction if ingested.

She had 10 crickets in total tonight, my next plan is to try and get her to eat in a seperate container so I don't have to count the crickets in and out Smile
