Bum down. Eggs?
I got upthis morning to find Lipsy sat in her calcium powder tray - she is sat like a dog, her front feet are in her water bowl because that is next to her tray of calcium powder and her bum is presed down into the powder - is she laying eggs?! I've never seen her do this before but i noticed a couple of days ago how fat her lower body has gotten, i checked to see if i could see the eggs but i couldnt really see anything, nothing obvious anyway. Her belly is very big and i've been checking to makesure she is okay and just incase she has eggs i checked for those too, i put a little minaiture dog bowl thing in full of coconut husk as its all i had and wet it, she has been in it because there is coconut husk all over her tank floor. I also put a clean peanut butter jar in half full of coconut husk and wet it because i have no tupper ware boxes(the jar is laid on its side with the lid off) She's been sat like that for about half an hour now, her eyes are closed now too. What is she doing?

You could take a picture, although don't disturb her of course.
If she is infact laying eggs, keep an eye on her, its a great sight to see

Re: Bum down. Eggs?
She crawled half way out of her calcium dish and just layed flat against the floor and i started getting worried, i thought maybe she was getting to hot and trying to cool herself down so i opened her lid to put my hand in and just see if i could tell it was too hot or whatever, i dont really know i was just getting worried, and she ran back into her hide. Sorry if i ruined it for everyone :'(
I get really worried when Lipsy does something odd, i would seriously die if she left me and i seem to think everything she does thats a bit wierd means she is dying

This is her with her bum in the powder, she moved round so she was sort of down the back of her hide.
Laying flat on the floor before i scared her away.
She is back now though ^_^ she has her front feet dipped in her powder now, i really dont know what she's up to :')

She's now laying flat to the floor with her bum raised and her tail inside her calcium bolw to keep her bum up, and snoozing. Well, her eyes are closed.

Re: Bum down. Eggs?
Sounds like she was trying to push something out. It could be poop, could be eggs. But if you don't think she's gravid, then she's likely just trying to push poop out. Did you have anything loose she could ingest?
Ack I just read you are using coco husk. That's a loose substrate that could get your gecko impacted. For laybox medium, use either cocofiber or plain paper towels. You will want to take those coconut husk out right away as she may already have ingested some.

Re: Bum down. Eggs?
You just wet them, fold them up, and lay them in the laybox. Nothing special. Many people use paper towels as the moisthide or laybox medium. And if anybody has any doubts, here's a pic of my female that laid 2 eggs fine in a laybox using paper towels. The paper towels actually covered the bottom of the container, but she dug and flipped it, then laid two eggs next to the moist paper towels.

Awwh haha, thats so cute. I have done that and she went in it for a minute. She keeps scratching at the tank as if she wants to come out. I dont know what's wrong with her. She's currently just wandering around her tank and occassionally climbing into the laybox, standing in it for a minute and coming back out again. I hope it is eggs and there isnt anything seriously wrong with her

Re: Bum down. Eggs?
i would caution using wet papertowels as a laybox medium. only because if the gecko lays the eggs directly on the wet papertowels, the eggs will absorb too much water and die...if she is gravid you can see the eggs through the belly. especially if she is ready to lay. i am pretty sure leopard geckos only ovulate for a few months a year, no matter where on the planet they are. leopard geckos should not be ovulating right now. i think she was just comfy, i have seen my leopards lay or sit in some really awkward positions!! but they do it quite often here at my place, just silly little lizards! she may be constipated, or possibly impacted if she ate some of the wood chips. i use the GROUND up coconut husk(bed a beast) for my lay boxes, and if they eat a little bit of that, they should be able to digest and pass it. i would just watch her for a few days, and if she is pooping okay, dont worry about it, she was just sitting in a silly position.

Re: Bum down. Eggs?
It isn't just that she was in a wierd position, its also that she is acting strange like restless i would call it. Just being wierd, she has always been a small quiet little gecko and never made a fuss over anything but she seems like she wants a lot of attention all of a sudden. There was a poop and wee in her coconut today when i cleaned her out, looks like it was there since yesterday. I will keep an eye on her. I am constantly looking into their tanks so if she layed eggs i would definately see them within minutes of them being laid and they would be moved straight away.
P.S. Mario let me hold him today and he didnt squeel or wriggle. He was just calm exactly like Lipsy when i pick her up ^_^ I was so happy

By the way, if a female is gravid and wants to lay within a week, she will become very restless and will scratch, dig, pull, and go all over the place. So if she's being restless and scratching, she could be gravid. But it doesn't mean she's ready to lay just yet, as the digging & scratching can sometimes go on for a week before she's ready.
Re: Bum down. Eggs?
Ohh i see (: I was trying to find out how long it takes for her to lay if she is becoming gravid but i couldnt find it anywhere. She is laying outside of her hide, ;aying down the side of the laybox. She seems pretty content at the moment
