surgery and leopard geckos Empty surgery and leopard geckos

Post by amylouise88 Sat Oct 22, 2011 12:26 am

My leopard gecko 'Alex' has recently developed a lump on his belly. I went to the vets and they said he was very overweight so he has been on a diet the last month. Went back today and it could be a tumour. I have to monitor him for another 2 weeks then have to make a deecision if an operation is the best soloution. the vet has never done an op like this before. but it may effect alex's normal behaviour eg moving! ... Any ideas, help would be great.

Welcome to the forum! I'm Kathryn, I hope we are able to help you.

If your vet has not done the surgery before I would consider looking for a different vet. Is the vet you are currently going to specializing in reptiles? I would look for a vet who specializes in reptiles.

I'm sorry your leo is sick Sad I hope they can help him quickly.

thank you for your reply. Yes he does specialise in reptile but he has never seen a lump like this on a gecko as it is just fat but rapidly growing even though he is on a diet. And the weight is being loss from his tail.

Then I personally would ask for x-rays to be done, to see if it isn't impaction first; or to really determine the full nature of this abscess.

hey amylouise88 i hope everything works out for you. If your vet is still a little bit unsure of your leos situation i could try to talk to my vet here and see if he knows something. I am blessed to have one of the worlds best reptile vets that is specialized in leos. Some of you may have heard of him and may have even read some of his books. Its Dr Roger Klingenburg. His office is about a 10 min drive from my house. When i heard this is where his vet clinic was i was super stoked. So good luck and keep us updated :-)
