Okay, so my super snow male is poss. giant.

At 16 days short of 5 months old, he is currently 8 inches long and 31.7 grams. Would this be a good indicator of a young giant? :0

Defining a giant Empty Re: Defining a giant

I would say it's too early to tell. Giants usually grow at an estimate 10-15g a month, and to be a true "giant" or "super giant", they have to reach 90g+ at one year old for giant males, and 110g+ for one year old for super giant males. So until they reach 1 year old or that 90g or 110g mark before 1 year old, it's very hard to say if you have a giant or not.

I was told by a couple of very reputable breeders, including Ron Tremper himself, that some breeders sell young geckos as "giants" knowing very well that they may not develop into a giant sized gecko later on. In my collection I have one that I bought as a "super giant" but currently, he's on his way to be a giant if that. I purchased him at 3 month old.

So cross your fingers and wait another 5-7 months to see Smile

Edit: I'll add that some giants grow slower initially, but catch up in growth later. That's why it's just too hard to tell when they are young, you really have to wait until it's almost a year old to know whether you have a giant or not.

well acording to Ron Trempers book by 1year of age a giant male will have reached 80-110g and a female will be between 60-90g and the super giant males will be over 110g and females will be over 90g by 1yr old. lenght wise they are usually over 10inches long Smile
