Looking for the different morph/traits of leopard geckos? Look no further! Thanks to the generous help of members within LGF, we now have all the morph/traits in one place! Big thank you to samsleopardgecckos for all the work she has been doing to make this possible, as well as Jordan for supplying the information about each morph/trait.
(We are still missing some pictures, if you think you can help, please post here.)
SINGLE TRAITS
Aberrant – Born with broken body bands, but not broken
tail bands. The pattern develops into a unique and different shape every
time. Similar to Jungle without broken tail bands.
Albino – There are three types of Albino, see Bell Albino, Tremper Albino and Rainwater Albino. All Albino genes are simple recessive
Abyssinian – Said to be a fourth albino but yet to be
proven as albino. None to this day have had black on their body and they
have red veins in their eyes.
Baldy – A polygenic trait that acts as recessive. A
Baldy is a gecko with no spots on its head. Usually a Baldy is Super
Hypomelanistic.
Bell Albino – A recessive albino gene. The eyes are a light pink colour, and their body often carries brown and lavender patterns.
Black Pearl – A gene that gives the gecko a very dark velvety appearance. The genetics are still being tested.
Blizzard – A simple recessive morph that creates a
white patternless gecko. The whiteness of the gecko can vary from
greyish to stark white.
Bold Stripe – A gecko with 2 dark bold stripes running down its sides. Similar to a Stripe but promenantly darker. Acts as recessive.
Carrot Tail – A polygenic trait, carrot tail is basically orange colouration on the tail. Usually it’s considered ‘the more the better’.
Eclipse – A recessive eye trait in which it completely
covers the eye in black. When an albino is homozygous for eclipse the
eye is completely red.
Emerald – A line bred trait in which the gecko shows
certain green hues, almost like lime colour on the body. Sometimes
called Emerine.
Enigma – A co-dominant gene, that carries with it
neurological problems. Some enigma geckos can show signs of these issues
and many don’t. It is debateable whether or not enigma’s should be
bred. The enigma messes with the eyes and back pattern, often creating
speckled patterning, can also wash out tail colour.
Gem Snow – A dominant snow gene. Hatchlings are born completely black and white and often stay rather light through life.
Ghost – Very faded colours, almost like shedding. Gene is thought to be co-dominant.
Giant – A co-dominant trait that makes hatchlings grow
faster and larger than average leopard gecko’s. When fully grown they
are noticeable larger. This is the heterozygous version.
Halloween Mask – A gecko with very dark patterning on its head and face. Acts as recessive.
High Yellow – A gecko with brighter yellow colouring and less spots. Line Bred.
Hypomelanistic(hypo) – A gecko which produces less
black, resulting in less spots. Similar to High Yellow, but it is
thought a Hypo must have less than 10 spots and High yellow more than
ten. Line bred.
Jungle – A gecko with a mixed up random pattern on its
back and its tail. Similar to Aberrant but Jungles are only Jungle if
their tail rings are broken, if not they are Aberrant.
Lavender – A random trait in which a gecko shows a lot of lavender colouration.
Line Bred Snow – Another snow type. Line bred for more whiter colouration.
Mack Snow – The main snow gene. It is co-dominant and
Mack Snow is the heterozygous version of the gene. A Mack snow hatchling
is completely black and white and can look a lot like a normal when
fully grown.
Marble Eye – Still being tested. An eye trait which literally makes the eye look marble like
Murphy Patternless – A recessive gene. A Patternless gecko is completely yellow with not pattern on the body, tail or head.
Normal – The normal dominant gene, the normal wild pattern. Yellow body with lots of Leopard like spots.
Paradox – A random occurrence in which something
happens which technically shouldn’t happen on a gecko. For example an
albino producing a black spot.
Patternless Stripe – A recessive gene in which the
gecko is patternless and shows a clear dorsal stripe. Usually connected
With Tremper Albinos and RAPTORS.
Rainwater Albino – A recessive albino gene. Generally lighter in colour but the eyes are darker than the other albino strains.
Red Stripe – A line bred trait where the gecko has 2 red stripes running down at each side of its spine.
Reverse Stripe – A gecko with a dark stripe running down the back of its body from its neck to its hind legs.
Snake Eyes – Snake Eyes is where the eye is only
partially covered in solid black. There are two types of Snake eyes.
Sometimes Blizzards can be born with snake eyes, it is a random
occurrence and not linked at all to the Eclipse gene. The second Snake
Eyes does occur from the Eclipse gene, sometimes homozygous Eclipse
geckos can only have half of their eye coloured.
Stripe – Acts recessive. A trait in which the geckos body has stripes running down from the neck to tail.
Super Giant – The homozygous version of Giant. Same as Giant but even bigger and faster growing.
Super Hypo – Absolutely no spotting on the body. Comes from breeding Hypo’s to get less spotting.
Super Snow – The homozygous version of Mack Snow. A
super is completely white with black spotting running down its back. A
Super Snow also has completely black eyes but is not connected to the
Eclipse gene.
TUG Snow – Another snow gene. Thought to be Axanthic where little to no yellow is produced. This snow gene is dominant.
Tangerine – A line bred trait in which the gecko shows orange colouration on its body.
Tremper Albino – The most common albino strain. Light grey eyes and light tan coloured patterning. Simple recessive.
White And Yellow – A trait that is still being tested. Similar to Enigma but without the negative issues.
White Side – A line bred trait, a gecko with very high white sides.
DOUBLE TRAIT MORPHS
APTOR – Albino Patternless Tremper Orange. Tremper Albino and Patternless stripe.
Banana Blizzard – Murphy Patternless and Blizzard.
Blazing Blizzard – Any Albino Strain and Blizzard. E.g Tremper Blazing Blizzard.
BEE – Black-Eyed Enigma. Eclipse and Enigma.
Firewater – Rainwater Albino and Tangerine.
Hybino – Super Hypo and Albino.
Hypo Tangerine – A tangerine with less spotting.
Raining Red Stripe – Rainwater Albino and Red stripe.
SHT – Super Hypo Tangerine. A tangerine with no spotting.
Tangelo – Tangerine and Tremper Albino.
Also a lot of obvious ones like Mack Snow Albino, Hypo Mack snow etc. but the names are the same as the genes involved.
TRIPLE TRAIT MORPHS
Banana Blazing Blizzard – Murphy Patternless and Albino and Blizzard.
Black Hole – Enigma, Mack Snow and Eclipse.
Creamsicle – SHT and Mack Snow. Should also include some carrot tail.
Hyglo – Super Hypo, Tangerine and Tremper.
RADAR – Bell Albino, Eclipse and patternless stripe. Bell version of RAPTOR.
RAPTOR – Red-eyed Albino Patternless Tremper ORange. Tremper Albino, Eclipse and Patternless stripe.
SHTCT – Super Hypo, Tangerine, Carrot Tail.
SHTB – Super Hypo, Tangerine and Baldy
Super Creamsicle – Super Snow and SHT.
Typhoon – Rainwater Albino, Eclipse and Patternless Stripe. Rainwater version of RAPTOR.
Again there are obvious ones where the names are the traits, e.g. Mack Snow RAPTOR
QUADRUPLE TRAITS
Aurora – Mack Snow, Rainwater Albino, Murphy Patternless and Enigma.
Diablo Blanco – Blizzard and RAPTOR (Eclipse, Tremper, Patternless Stripe).
Ember – Murphy Patternless and RAPTOR (Eclipse, Tremper, Patternless Stripe).
Nova – Enigma and RAPTOR (Eclipse, Tremper, Patternless Stripe).
Phantom – TUG Snow, Super Hypo, Tangerine and Albino. TUG Snow Sunglow.
RAPTOR Creamsicle
– Super Hypo, Tangerine, Mack Snow and Eclipse. Despite being called
Raptor, it doesn’t contain Tremper Albino or Patternless Stripe.
Snowglow – Super Hypo, Tangerine, Albino and Mack Snow. Mack Snow Sunglow.

Re: Morph Directory
A very interesting read, I have learnt something new from this. I was always lead to believe that my Hypo Tangarines were high yellows but now reading this they are not...
I was quite suprised when I saw the Paradox sectionas I have never heard of this before and my Enigma has a large light brown spot on one of his back legs...
1 question though a high yellow is it less than 10 spots on the body or less than 10 sopts overall...

Re: Morph Directory
I'm glad you found this useful. If you have any photos to contribute, as we are missing some pictures for certain morphs, its greatly appreciated!
A hypo is a gecko with less than 10 spots on its body. A high yellow is a gecko with more than 10 spots on its body, but less spotting than a normal.

Re: Morph Directory
I would love to add any pictures you have if you can. They would need to be pictures you've taken yourself, as we don't want to just take pics off the internet and risk copywright infringemet. :P
Thank you!

Re: Morph Directory
If you want, you can use a picture for the firewater.
But the geckos on the pictures are not adult.

Re: Morph Directory
If you give me a list I am sure I could fill most of it. Between stuff I have and stuff I did have and have photos of, I think there should be no problem putting one of the best morph directories on the net together. :-)
Re: Morph Directory
Wow! You've got some gorgeous leos! :O
Any of the morphs listed that do not have a picture, need a picture.
Here is a list, with the ones we have scratched out:

Thank you so much! ^_^
