Getting a new cham!!!
I have just paid a deposit on an ambanja panther chameleon. It is a red bodied blue barred locale and he is only 4 weeks old. It is very difficult to get panthers over here and as it is, I have to make a 12 hour (there and back) car journey to fetch him from the breeder. Will post a pic later tonight - he is soooo cute!
I can only pick him up end of next month cos I am going overseas to watch SA in the rugby world cup. Don't want to take a baby cham on when I will be going on holiday. So, I have to wait another 5 weeks before I bring him home but its still very exciting for me.

Awww! Congratulations!
I can't wait to see the pictures of your new little guy. Is it temp sexed like leos, or do you have to wait a certain amount of weeks before it can be sexed?
12 hour drive? WOW. At least you know the little guy will be worth it!
Congrats again!

Re: Getting a new cham!!!
Kathryn, no they are not temp sexed and all eggs are incubated at the same temps. Males have physical characteristics that tell them apart from females, eg. male veiled chameleons have a tarsal spur on their hind legs and male panther chameleons have a bony protrusion at the end of their nose. The normal incubation period for chameleon eggs is 6-9 months and one species is an incredible 24 months!!! So, this makes breeding quite difficult and the reason chameleons are very special reptiles.
