My Viv as I make it. *Pic Heavy*
So, I decided to make a "as you go" thread. I'll post pics of my set up as I make new hides and get everything ready for my gecko.
Also, don't mind the stuffed animals. I have the tank on my couch which has stuffed animals for my dogs on it. And the tank will not permanently be on the couch. We are replaceing the couch with a nice stand. I will post as soon as we do that.
PLEASE let me know wat you guys think! And let me know if I should change anything. Thanks for all your help on here guys.
I have no yet glued the ramp together with the other tiles.

Re: My Viv as I make it. *Pic Heavy*
Looking good so far but you might want to make the hides bigger as this space will be fine when your leo is still young but when it becomes an adult it will not be able to fit inside. Also, in your other thread about two levels, I read that you couldn't get the superglue unstuck. It would be better to use silicone (the kind they use for sealing fishtanks) cos the superglue will give off nasty fumes which you don't want your leo to inhale. Also, just make double sure that nothing is loose or unstable as leos like to climb up onto everything and you don't want anything falling on them and hurting them, especially their tail cos they would prob drop it and you don't want that.

Even if the super glue is completely dry it will give off fumes? I will make the hides bigger.

Re: My Viv as I make it. *Pic Heavy*
It shouldn't give off fumes, but I personally would've looked into silicone for this kind of project. Just a more "firm" bond.
Re: My Viv as I make it. *Pic Heavy*
Super glue shouldn't emit off gasses until it reaches (or gets close to) a flashpoint of over 170*F
(From SUperglue's own info sheet) Fire and Explosion Hazard Information
=======================================================
Flash Point Method: TCC
Flash Point Text: 176F,80C
Extinguishing Media: FLUSH WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER OR DRY CHEMICAL
EXTINGUISHER.
Fire Fighting Procedures: NIOSH/MSHA APPRVD SCBA & FULL PROT EQUIP (FP N).
FUMES MAY BE IRRITATING IF NOT BURNING & REQ AIR SUPPLY W/GOGG WHILE
APPLYING LG AMTS OF WATER/DRY (SUPDAT)
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard: NONE. COMBUSTIBLE REQUIRING THE ABOVE
PROCEDURES.
so you're ok there as far as off gasses go BUT the relaibility of it holding the tiles together is questionable. Liquid nails, silicon for aquariums, gorilla glue, all wouid be better options for long term reliability esp since UV breaks down the bonds of superglue (also stated in their stat sheet found here: http://www.chess.cornell.edu/safety/manual/msds/sprglue.htm
Aside of that the tank is shaping up nicely. Are you using porcelain or ceramic tiles or natural stone?

Re: My Viv as I make it. *Pic Heavy*
Thank you. Im pretty sure my dad has some gorilla glue so i will make everything else with that and try to re glue the stuff i have now. As for the tile, i have no idea what kind it is. I can ask when i get home from school. I did re do the tile so it looks better, and i bought my UTH and moved the couch and put in the stand. Ill post pics when i get home. I dont think we are buying any more hides or fake plants till expo. But besides that, it looks like I will be getting her this weekend.
Is there a safe plant list for leos? I really like live plants in my vivs. Are cactuses bad for them?

Re: My Viv as I make it. *Pic Heavy*
Thorny cactus can scratch, cut or jab eyes so id suggest avoiding, also they're not really natural where leos are found... its more scrub grass and desert flowers. False plants would be better since you're not creating a ecosystem like say a planted frog viv so there's no way aside of removal for any waste product to be broken down. Also live plants require uv/grow lights which as we know is stressful for leos. Artificial plants don't require soil or pots and can be disinfected. More natural would be just making some tighter layers with the tiles to simulate the rocky craigs they live in. Then you can hot glue some afke plant sprigs to hide joints or defects in the tile and give a flash of color.

Sorry I havent posted in here in forever! I had an extremely busy freaking week!! No time to even put pics on the computer. But good news, I got the cage done and I got my litttle girl
The heat mat is on the right side. I have her moist side over there aswell. Lemme know if I need to change that. Also, we are going to be getting a couple fake plants tomorrow just to add some color.

WOAH! That looks fantastic!! That's one very lucky leopard gecko.
However, I do have one little suggestion just based on my preferences...on your cool side, I notice that a lot of light can get under the corner platform...my leo loves hiding everywhere but avoids places that are way too open like the plague. I suggest taping some dark construction paper on the back of your tank to block out light underneath the stairs...it'll make it dark and give him another place to hide if he's shy like mine.

Thanks! Alright, I have some left over tile so I'll just put it behind the hide to make it dark.

Nice looking enclosure! Good suggestion Cerra & yes, leo's love to hide so the darker the better. They feel safer that way. Also, I can't see a hide on the hot side and your moist hide should be half on the heat and half off. You may want to use a digital probe thermometer to check temps and make sure heat is able to get through the tiles properly.
