Maybellene
I came home from work recently to the news that my female anole, Maybellene, had died. I'm not quite sure what did it, but with some other news I've gotten, I think she died due to a build up of calcium blocking an airway.
Daemon has suddenly developed on the right side of his neck a calcium bubble too. So here soon, I'll be replacing the UVB bulb and be watching him be able to absorb all that calcium.

Re: Maybellene
Thanks, guys, I really appreciate it.
We'll be getting the bulb asap, so that Daemon gets all nice and better. I think that I'm going to use this as a teaching experience and show what a calcium bubble is, and what a UVB does for animals who need UVB.

Re: Maybellene
So, does this mean that anoles need a UVB light just like chameleons?

Re: Maybellene
Yep, they do. Their native to Florida, and sit and bask in the sun/UVB the entire day.
It was actually a neat experience I had, I went to the Disney park in Florida and there were anoles running around every where through the grass. I guess you could say, that's where I really started my interest in reptiles, at the age of like 6!

Re: Maybellene
Yeah, I believe the anoles are quite common in the states and people see them in their gardens. They also seem quite tame even the ones in the wild cos people get them to climb onto their hand so they can return them to their natural habitat.
So, obviously your UVB bulb that you had was not working properly or was older than you thought? We were told to replace the one we have for our chameleon every 5-6 months. Its the same for the aquarium lights.

Re: Maybellene
if you invest the $60 or so dollars in a mercury vapor uv bulb those promote only needing replaced every year. Its a sad lesson to learn but I guess anoles have their calcium pockets in ther necks insted of their armpits...
Re: Maybellene
I knew i was due in another month for a new bulb, but it's only been about 4 and a half since I bought this one. I guess I wore it out faster than I thought.

Re: Maybellene
Daemon will be just fine, I'll try and get pictures of his calcium bubble for a show and tell later.
