Has to be :
*Easy to look after
*Easy to breed (But not overly common on market)
*Doesnt get too big
*Can be handled
I have my eye on :

*African fat tail
I dont want:
*Corn snake
*Royals
*Any boas or pythons
*Leos
*Beardies
Shot your answers at me;)

Re: Dont know what to get
rankins are kinda cool they are just like mini bearded dragons and they eat only insects and awesome to handle.
western hognoses are cute tho, so are sand boa's which don't get to big.

Re: Dont know what to get
Blue tongued skink give birth to live babies up to 15 at a time, have pretty simple care requirements but need a varied diet. I think diet will be the most complex aspect of keeping a BTS but if you have experience with dragons you should do ok. They aren't rare, but they aren't flooding the market either.
Just a question for my own stupid curiosity but why would you have to breed your new pet? That means you'd have to get 2 or know someone with an opposite gendered animal... not all pets need to be bred to be enjoyed completely. It's kind of like breeding show rabbits... there's 46 different breeds out there, I'm interested in about a half dozen of them but will I get them and try to breed them to perfection before I'm done perfecting my netherlands... no... will I get one as a pet to enjoy and get to know the breed before investing in a breeding herd... sure will... some things are better enjoyed on their own rather than turning everything you own into a project.

Re: Dont know what to get
I agree with Kel. You shouldn't buy an animal with the intention to breed it if you have never owned it before... You should buy it with the intention to gain knowledge and experience of owning that animal. Once you have aquired experience and knowledge and comfortable about owning more than one, done all the research, made sure oyu have the facilities, money, space, knowledge... THEN think about breeding it.
Also, AFT's are similar to leo's in structure, but don't make the mistake of thinking they are the same in terms of breeding and care

Re: Dont know what to get
Im not buying just to breed them, im buying for them to be a pet as well. But I generally like the hobby. And if they breed they breed if not no worries to be honest with you. Ovbi they wont be breed from straight away. As stated Im not buying purely for breeding. its for a pet and to expand with a hobby
Rankins, they looks so similar to beardies, and personally I dont like the look of beardies. I have found some Rough green snakes which I seems to like. Kinda Stearing away from AFT due to them being very similar to leos and want something different. Haha I dont really like Sand boas - they look like over sized sausages.
Jordan - I agree with where you are coming from. Im thinking of buying one of the reptiles I choice to go with, and once I have got use to them and happy with them, read and gain everything i can about breeding and think weather its worth it/if i have everything to do it and take things from there

Re: Dont know what to get
I guess Day Gecko's are a good recommendation. They're not really small, so they're good pets. I don't know how prominent they'll be in the UK though.
Re: Dont know what to get
I decided to go for a hognose.
I read up on AFT and they seem very similar in appearance to a leopard gecko. And Rough green snakes tend to be Wild Caught causing them to incounter more problems and end up dying. I went up to local shop today to get some live food for the leos and saw they had a baby hoggie for a good price of £85.00 I got him out and had a good handle and I really liked the snake itsself. Gotta read up and research before buying though, they what the guy was saying they didnt sound too hard to keep or different from other snakes (Generally)

Just be prepared, I know you've kept snakes before but...

Re: Dont know what to get
It's really only the hognose, when they chew they bite with the front teeth and then pull prey in with the back teeth. So, when that hognose realized that the hand wasn't prey; it was locked in pretty good.
Re: Dont know what to get
I think you should try long tail lizards. The only downside is they jump and run fast so the tank has to be tall.

Re: Dont know what to get
I know there bite is real nasty and I know they are different to corn royals or boas (for the fact they have different type of teeth and they have venom or posion which ever one it is) but been told, if I buy a hatchlin and hold it regular than it should become tame and only be huffy/play dead rather then lash out and bite. But yes I do completely understand which the fact they are a little extra work than others - Also Ive been bitten by many things in the past so doesnt really bothere me - but again I know this is slightly a different bite Thanks for the word up guys though
Re: Dont know what to get
