I think Odysseus is constipated
He's only pooped twice in the past 2 weeks. I don't know if that is normal or not, but I read that meal worms can constipate because of their shell. I've fed him 8 mealies every two days.
If he is constipated, what could I do to help him pass it?

Re: I think Odysseus is constipated
I'll try the wax worms. I almost bought some yesterday as a treat. I should've.
And is it mineral oil you're thinking of? I was just reading up on it and I found that I could put drops of that on his mouth for him to lap up.
I don't really know how often is normal for a leo to go.

Re: I think Odysseus is constipated
Yes mineral oil drops are the first "lets try this" with a leo who is stopped up.
Re: I think Odysseus is constipated
Correct Kodie... I would try the mineral oil first to kind of grease the tracks and help things move along... using wax worms is only adding a higher fat food to his diet that would aide in nutrition and avoid total GI stasis until you were able to unconstipate him. It is a risky gamble since you can get him addicted and he could refuse other feeders. Personally I'd rather see you try to feed superworms before wax worms, even butterworms woud be better than wax worms. Still a high fat worm but not as addicting as the soft bodied waxies.
On average if a leo is eating every day then they should be pooping every to every other day unless they were malnourished of course then because they'd be using the majority of what they were eating to replenish the body and have very little waste. If your leo is eating appropriately sized feeders then he should be able to avoid constipation so too many mealies for a leo that is sized to eat supers does him no real benefit aside of making the system work twice as hard to digest and pass all that extra shell. Constipation is another great reason to make sure you feed a varied diet and keep temps HIGH... I would bump his temps up to about 97-98*F as well. The higher temps will help him digest whatever is left to digest and pass things thru.
You can try warm soaks as well in the bathroom sink every day for about 15-20 minutes to help relax him and get things moving along. If all else faisl I've heard from many people that their leos ALWAYS popp when they take them for a car ride like on the way to the vet, BUT takign a leo out of his element in a car with out hisheat mat or a source of heat can eb VERY stressing which is why they probally poo themselves.
Make sure your leo is WELL hydrated. If you don't think he's drinking enough out of his bowl, lightly mist his viv every other night so that he can lick the droplets off the walls. Dehydration can also lead to constipation.

Re: I think Odysseus is constipated
I try to put drops of water on his lips to lick up every day.
Last time I checked his hot side was 96 so I'll turn it up for a bit.
