Does anyone have any exotic mammals?
Hey
No one really comments in this section soo.. I thought I'd ask if any of you have an unusual exotic bird or mammal.. or your friends and family do. Please post pics and tell us about them. Have you ever owned any exotic mammals/birds in the past? If not, what's your dream exotic pet? not including herps

I don't know that id say we own any exotic mammas unless you count gerbils but then again they're for the python and not really pets but they are fascinating to watch their mannerisms. Iv e owned ferrets also, 3 of them. Bear gidget and cid (his real name was acid because he was such a trip ). If you're ever looking for a fun time get 3 ferrets together id like to own another ferret in the future... maybe when I tire of the rabbit breeding and reduce my number of dogs to 2 or 3

They are exactly like cats, only 10 times the stink.
They are equally mischievous as cats, except that they have more hands than feet than cats. haha

Re: Does anyone have any exotic mammals?
They are similar to cats sarah in the fact that they can live on cat food... and their proper wild name is pole cat because of their long shape. Most cats I know are fat and lazy so I would have to say ferrets are not very similar but they can be litter trained as they always use the same corner, they are thieves... don't leave your keys or shiney objects laying around or they'll go missing, and if you get them descented they don't stink at all. Mine had free range of my apartment, slept under the couch and ate out of the same food bowl my dog did. They walked on a leash just like a dog, and even tho they are suppose to be verminators I couldn't get any of mine to kill a mouse if I tried. Altho walking them around the apartment did kee the skunks and racoons away Also if females come into heat, if they're not bred or fixed they'll die. They don't cycle out of heat like cats do.
Overall they are very fun, you need to put a fair amout of time into them when theyre kits to teach them how much/hard they can bite you much like a puppy, and they LOVE red licorice I would recommend them to anyone that has the time to put into them and I would say they're much more like dogs than cats... they demand our attention and are not content to just be left to laze about like cats are. Ferrets can be very co-dependant and get depressed from lack of human interaction.

awwww thankyou for posting about your ferrets.. you are making me want one! I love that you walked them on a lead! that's cute.
At college, they had like a kennel for the ferrets to live in.. there were 4 of them. They had loads of tubes and toys.. and access to outside I think one day, I will build a little aviary style thing inside a shed with an outside area.. decorate it all natural.. to look like a little forest and get a couple of ferrets

Re: Does anyone have any exotic mammals?
As nice as that sounds, did you know domesticated ferrets can not survive in the wild, also the closest wild relitave is the north american black footed ferret. I. Would love to see it tho. I would have loved to make a giant ferret jungle play land :0
Re: Does anyone have any exotic mammals?
we rescue, rehab, and rehome Chinchillas. i'll have to get some pics up but we currently have 7 males. we've had up to 14 males and females at one time.

Re: Does anyone have any exotic mammals?
Awwww, I love working with rescues. I took in 12 leos at one time that were rescues and although not all of them made it the satisfaction of seeing them thrive and get well is just heart warming.
Re: Does anyone have any exotic mammals?
I have my sugar gliders which I dont know if I wld say thats an exotic pet. But I wldnt think Chinchillas are exotic either, lol. But exotic to me has a whole other meaning
