Is it really necessary? My leo, who's now 8 months old and is growing SUPER fast, therefore sheds A LOT (every 2 weeks approximately) and i decided not to put a moist hide because there really isn't room in his enclosure for one. x__x when i see that he's starting to look pale, i mist the underside of his driftwood climbing log and the inside of his hide, along with the floor of where his hide sits. he doesn't have any trouble shedding, one day he'll be real pale and by the time i come home from school, he's successfully shed.

is this okay? i've never seen any problems with toes, eyes, or his tail either and his behavior is normal, in the fact that he eats all the skin and sheds it easily and quickly.

I'd definitely get one, mine has lost so many toes/pieces of toes because I didn't have a moist hide for so many years. I tried to pull it off whenever I saw it but I didn't always get all of it or I didn't notice it until it was too late. So I'll never ever go without one again. Not all geckos have so much shed stuck to them I guess, but I wouldn't risk it personally.

i agree with tammy, even if you try and catch her shedding every time, you might miss it or you dont mist it enough for her at the time, having a moist box wet all the time is just a good idea all around.

You could always build upwards. Look at the sticky "show off your set up" l think mines first, gives a real good layout for vertical space to add stuff like most hide etc.

Now my problem with how your doing things now is the leo can't escape the most area because now youve soaked all his hide spots. Having a devoted moist area he can choose to go to would really be best.you risk a lot of health issues to over exposure to moisture such as bacterial infection, breathing/respiratory issues, fungal infections, etc. moist hides don't have to be fancy, just functional. mine's just a tupperware dish and moist paper towels on top of his hot hide.

kermit is right and also gave a great idea on the building up! i am making 2 levels for my new tank but mines a big project, you could do something like this but bigger so it goes along the whole back wall instead of just the corner.

there is also a site were they teach you how to make one and its rather simple check it out, i hope its ok to link to this site cause i don't think it qualifies as a forum lol
