Ready to breed when?
Hey guys!
My leo is around 60g (female) and I am picking up a 30g~ male tmr and I was wondering when it will be safe to start breeding?
Does the male have to be bigger or similar size to breed or can it be small ?
Was thinking about getting male to around 40-45g then breeding or will it be read earlier?
Thanks
Swarsh

Re: Ready to breed when?
You want to wait until the male is 7+ month old, and 50g+. Any earlier you'll chance at getting infertile eggs. Also more than just weight & age, you gotta look at whether the male is healthy & alert or not. Both male & female geckos are known to go off food during breeding seasons. So breeding males too early can stunt their growth, you have to be careful if you want to breed them early.
And equally important is to make sure your female is ovulating before breeding them. Otherwise the female may reject the male and fights could injure both geckos.

Ahh I see,
Female I am sure is really healthy and growing really quick too!
I'll check and quarantine the male for a month or two before deciding on what to do, but yeah I will definately check for health/size/age before attempting any of this!
Thanks

Re: Ready to breed when?
Check A lot more than that before breeding. Make sure you are TOT ALLY prepared and totally EDUCATED well in advance. Good for you for remembering to quarantine.
