Got eggs
So, here I am watching my one girl here digging for two days and waiting with my breath held for her to lay her eggs. Today I go upstairs to check on my rescues and here one of them has two eggs that she laid in her moist hide. HAHAHA, I put them in the incubator but I think that they are duds because they are awfully yellow but I tossed them in the incubator anyways. I am pretty excited about them. These are my first eggs ever so we will see how it goes.
Re: Got eggs
Haha wow, congrats on the first eggs.
Its been a bad season so far for me, i've had 7 eggs in total... 2 duds, 1 split, 2 shrivelled and don't seem to be returning to normal, and another two which have started to turn yellow, grr!
AND im still waiting for my mournng gecko eggs which were due like a week ago. lol.
But congrats on yours, i hope they turn out to be fertile.

Re: Got eggs
Thanks, they were some that weren't really intended but they were ones that were gravid when I got them so we will go with it. At least I already had an incubator set up!
Re: Got eggs
Ah right, the rescues. I presume she was okay passing the eggs then?
What weight was she? They may be her first ovulation cycle eggs, in which case they will definitely be infertile.

Re: Got eggs
She was too skitterish for me to get a weight on her. I was trying not to stress her out too much. She is actually looking good and ate as soon as I found the eggs I fed her and she just munched it on down so I think so is going to be ok.
Re: Got eggs
sounds good. If they are infertile and she stops producing any more eggs then that is a good sign that she hasn't been bred yet, and will allow you to build her up until your ready to breed her properly.
Re: Got eggs
any eggs from coffee yet jordan? sorry to hear about your other eggs
&& jolene, congrats on the eggs

Re: Got eggs
Just remember that if you do decide the eggs are no good to freeze them beofore you dispose of them just in case... you do't want the potential for what you thought to be a dud actually being good and developing in some trash pile somewhere.
Re: Got eggs
Thanks for that. I nearly threw one out today because it was stinking and rotting but I tossed it in the freezer first. Doesn't hurt to remind though because that would be a tragedy!
Re: Got eggs
@Kermit - would that really happen? I'd think, if the movement didn't drown the embryo, the surrounding area would either be too dry, too moist, or too bacteria filled for an egg to develop and hatch, but leos ARE pretty hardy...

Re: Got eggs
I don't think the odds are very likely but to me it is not really worth the very slim chance of it happening.
Re: Got eggs
Well yeah there is always the risk that the egg lands the right way up, in a nice plastic bag, surrounded by nice thermal incubating garbage. Lol sounds very unlikely when i put it like that. But its been known to happen. (never heard it happen with leo's but have personally witnessed it with the corns)
Re: Got eggs
It prob. Would take circumstances similar to the perfect storm for that to happen but again... say you were incubating eggs got half way thru, they started to look questionable so you pitch them (throw them out). Now they're past a lot of the delicate stage, half way developed and in a dump with nice warm damp composting garbage... it could happen easier than you might think... better safe than sorry.
