Schneider Skink Babies?!
I am so very excited. I was heading out today and as I walked passed my schneider tank I noticed that our two "female" lizards were breeding....lol!!! I figured...oh well, not a big deal I got my incubator going and I guess at this point the more the merrier. THEN, I got home and started researching incubation times and temps and all and as it turns out schneiders rarely breed in captivity. I found three sites that all they said about it was leave it to the experts and then finally a couple that said it is very rare and the female will only breed every three years therefore most schneiders are wild caught.
This is so exciting. I am hoping that she is carrying eggs because it does not happen normally where they would take it upon themselves to breed in these circumstances.
There we are, not exactly a question but I thought I would share the exitement!!
Here are a picture of the two hopefully parents.....
This is the female.
This one is the male.

They are very friendly. They actually ask to come out by scratching at the glass at the front of their tank and when you open it they will run right onto your hand. They are very beautiful and are very active too which makes it nice to have them to watch.
Re: Schneider Skink Babies?!
Well you must be such a good carer for them, an expert if you will.
Congrats on breeding them, i bet people will be wanting some of the captive bred babies from you.
And i was really stunned when i saw them skinks, i've never seen them before and they are beautiful.

Re: Schneider Skink Babies?!
HAHAHA, again they are Terry's but they like me because he is always at work when it i time to feed them! But, they are also very friendly with him and the kids. When we first got them they were too fast for me to hold on to but now they really like the attention they get.
Re: Schneider Skink Babies?!
Those are lovely skinks... We looked into those sometime ago when my older son was just about 7... very docile, a good beginner lizard. Congrats on the breeding... I would document EVERYTHING about this experience and get it all published... how you incubate, temps, times, your viv and husbandry I mean EVERYTHING. It could prove very useful to the herp world should she lay fertile eggs, but even if she doesn't they bred once, they're likely to do it again.
Re: Schneider Skink Babies?!
Thanks Kel, that is a great idea. I do keep a log on each lizard since I have so many but I will keep an even more detailed one on them for sure! It would be great if there was something that I did just by chance that could help other to get them to breed too.
Re: Schneider Skink Babies?!
Thanks Jordan, I have an aura about me that makes lizards want to get busy, now that right there is a marketable talent.LOL
