Bosc Monitor Taming Empty Bosc Monitor Taming

We've had our Bosc Monitor for well over a year now. He is probably around two years old or just getting there, i dont know if he will bite me or Adam but we dont take risks. Adam holds him every once in a while but he doesnt like it at all. He is getting really big now and i wondered if anyone's got any tips on how to tame him before he gets out of hand? I feed him three white mice every three days with tweezers through the top of his tank, he has a piece of slidy glass on the top. Today i saw him climb up to the top of his tank and push the glass up with his head, i ran over and it must have scared him because he got down immediately and i've put a bag of bark on top to weigh it down incase he tries it again

if you keep this guy in a glass tank you should really change it to a wooden viv with glass sliding doors around 4ft long or longer. start with daily baths, after wrap in towel and walk around with him in towel, if your worried about being bitten get some thick leather gloves or welding gauntlets and make sure when you pick him up you support all his body. (i'll try to get some pics of the best way i found to pick up the 3.5ft female bosc we used to have using my bearded dragon as our 2baby bosc's will prob bite me lol)

Okay, strapped for cash at the moment but i will look into it before pay day. I dont handle him at all, he is Adam's i just feed him on my days off. He sits on Adams lap with Adam holding him tight so he cant squirm and bite him but he lays there and hisses, and sometimes does a thing with his neck? It's kind of like he is crunching his food up in his throat its wierd. He bit Adam all the time when he was a baby but now he doesnt get the chance. I heard you can put vinegar on your hands?

try homes4reptiles there vivs are well priced and delivery is free i think. our big female used to live in the sofa most of the time and only went into her viv at night and for feeding & to get some heat. do you mean he puffs his throat? try giving him a warm bath as they all seem to relax and enjoy cuddles in a towel after. we use asda's hand gel most that bite dont like the taste. how big lenght wise is your boy?

Your housing you monitor in a fish tank and feeding mice? I will be surprised if he makes it to the age of 5. I am just trying to help. Please read.

He is in a long tank we got from the reptile shop that they also keep their bosc monitors in, it doesnt have a screen top it has a fixed top with a small piece of sliding glass that is only pulled open when he is fed. His substrate is dark coloured bark, i dont know what it is called, but it holds the moisture well and his tank is never dry, the inside of the glass lid drips all day long. I understand his tank is getting too small, the reason i started this topic. He is fed dead white mice and large mealworms, we have given him goldfish before. That website doesnt say anything about mice begin bad for him, it just basically says feed him more variety. So i will. I've read through it, some changes will be made to make him happy. He is my boyfriend's pet i dont have much to do with him unless i'm feeding him but i will make him awares, thanks

No probem, it's all for the love of a monitor:)

This is a big hint:
the Savannah Monitor is an invertebrate feeder and had fed on mammals with a frequency of less than .2%. If the animal feeds primarily on insects and mollusks in the wild, why feed it anything else in captivity?

I am not saying they should never be fed, but they require temperatures above 130, space, deep substrate in order to digest properly. It's important he takes the info on that website seriously, if not death is guaranteed before the age of six.

Thanks
