My NEW BTS!

Wellllll. I made a thread a while ago saying how I was thinking about getting a new reptile friend. During that time, I didn't know my aunt was planning to give away her Blue tongue skink. My mom kept it a secret for a while before telling me. Mom said I could have the BTS, so he is now mine!

His name was Skinky (named by 6 year old twins lol). I am changing his name to probably Gideon. I don't know how old he is, probably at least 5 - 10 years old. He hasn't been handled in a LONG time. Yesterday I held him for almost an hour and he was quite content. Today I cleaned out his tank, and then tried getting some pictures. I think I overwhelmed him a bit too much. He got angry at me and started hissing. I felt bad that I'd scared him. So he's back in his tank now. I gotta take it slower on him.

One problem I have though is they didn't cut his nails, or give him much to get his nails down, so they are curling. It looks really painful, which is another reason why I think he is so grumpy. Any tips on how to cut his nails? I'll try to get a picture of his nails once he's calmed down a bit.

He doesn't like cameras. Poor guy. Hopefully I can get him to calm down. Seconds after I took this picture, he attacked the camera. I felt so bad! I didn't know he didn't like cameras!

Awww, what a cutie! I've always wanted a BTS, but I don't have room for another huge viv now.

To clip my beardie's nails, I just use a tiny nailclippers that is meant for people. Or you can go to the petstore and get a small clipper used for reptiles/small animals/cats. Just cut off the very tips for now, so you don't cut the quick and stress him out even more.

Thanks guys! I will definitely be trying to get more pictures soon, but he's seems so afraid of the camera, I'm gonna have to sneak take pictures of him, which makes focusing the pic hard. Hopefully he'll get used to it!

Thank you Jessica! I will use little nail clippers then. I'll go slow, like one or two nails a day. I don't want to scare him, but they REALLY need to be cut. Any idea on how far I should cut though? You say the quick, but because they are so curled I'm not sure where that is. :/

Hmm, do you have and pics of his nails? It's a little harder to see the quick on lizards, but it's possible! LOL.

If you don't know where the quick is, then just start cutting off a teeny bit so they aren't sharp or scratchy anymore. If you cut off a small amount on a regular basis, the quick will become shorter.

I got it! He let my mom and me cut them! I held him and she cut. We've done it over the last three days. He has one more foot to go and he's done. I can already tell he's a lot more comfortable! He's moving more, and isn't so hissy when I hold him.

My dog Frank LOVES the skink. He sits on the bed with him, and just watches him calmly. Its really cute.

Got one picture of him the other day. He really dislikes the camera. I kinda thought it might have been a one time thing, NOPE. So, probably will have to sneak take pictures of him from now on. Sigh.

Sarah, I know! It actually belongs to my aunt (she let me borrow it when I picked him up from her house), and I hope she doesn't want it back cause he'll be really upset! I've tried using other blankets and he doesn't seem to like them as much! :P

I love animals that get attached to things! My mom's best friend's dog (LOL) has a stuffed animal that he LOVES. Its his "baby". You tell him to get his baby and he goes to get it! Its adorable!
