Just... Not going well

Post by fufucuddlypoops6 on Mon Mar 05, 2012 3:05 am

Well, we found out why Misfit's color changed...

We finally took him to the vet. He has a severe oral cavity infection. The change in color is due to the lack of nutrients and whatnot from food. He hasn't eaten for awhile... His tail is so small now...

He also has an abscess on one eye. And he's having a hard time shedding his eye skin.

Surgery for his mouth is $400. We don't have that kind of money. Survival rates are low, anyway.

I don't want him to suffer anymore. I don't want him to suffer in pain until he just dies of starvation. The meds we've been giving him aren't helping.

He's going to die. And I don't want him to suffer. This infection is very bad... I feel so bad.

I'm really sorry. Sometimes the best thing is to put them to sleep. It saves them from suffering. Sad

I'm really sorry. Poor Misfit.

It is very terrible. I do caution you though, it is quite possible that little Misfit was sick before you ever got him and he was able to not show it. It's nothing you've done wrong. Don't let this scare you away from Leo's.

awwww bless, sorry to hear that Misfits really sick Sad you've done the best you can for him but sounds like Misfit may have already been sick when you first got him.

best thing to do if you cant afford the surgury is to get the vet to put the poor little one to sleep to save him suffering anymore Sad

Sorry to hear this, it's always hard to lose a pet you've grown attached to. It's also very hard to see an animal suffering. You've done the best you could, so at this point in time culling may be the best option so the gecko stops suffering.

I got him from a pet store, too. I know that's a no-no, but if you saw him... You'd scoop him up and take him home, no hesitation. A runt, bullied by his cage mates, missing toes and a bitten off tail.

I saw how bad it was today. The inside of his mouth is just swollen with puss bubbles. We got all of his meds in him. Mom tried to feed him, and he can't eat. It's awful.

How much does it cost to put them down? If it comes to that, I want to pay for it myself. He's my baby. And I'll actually stay in the room. I've never been able to do that with previous animals we've put to sleep.

So sorry to hear about misfit. Wish there was more that could be done for him. Usually euthanasia is based upon weight and the amount of drug needed. I would call the vet and ask them directly as it will vary from place to place. Sending good vibes your way.

He's too small... I keep thinking about how little he is because of this... How much does a healthy gecko weigh?

I'm sorry to hear about your little Misfit. Sad I'm sure you've done everything you can...I totally agree with Kodie. He could have been sick before without you knowing it... Sometimes euthanasia is the best way to go for something like this. I'm not sure on how much it costs, but like Kel said, if you call they'll be able to get you an estimate.

It's not your fault, Lyndee!

My mom is going to call the vet tomorrow and see if we can go in Thursday. His tail is thinner then my pinkie finger. I feel so horrible. He can't see because he can't shed properly. He can't shed properly because he can't use his mouth to get the shed off. There is no hint of the vibrant orange he used to have all over his body, or the gorgeous violet color on his tail. He's this sickly grey/brown, and just looks terrible. It kills me. I just held him, and he had 2 or 3 layers of shed that were stuck on him... I got some of it off, but he got fussy so I had to stop. I've only had him since July. He was 6 months old when I got him. He's still a baby. I don't want him to die. I'm really attached to him. My whole family is. We don't want him to suffer anymore...
