Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
You need to have a thermostat set to a temp. The hot spot should stay the same temp all around the clock if not they can have problems digesting. Oh and if you get a 20 gallon you neeed a bigger UTH.hpoquiz wrote:My hot area is around 90 or more in the morning and in the evening it drops to 88

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
I could never get it right in a 10 gallon. Too cold with only a UTH and if I put a heat bulb it was too hot. I guess it depends on the temps in your room.ThyUnholy wrote:How is temps a problem in a ten gallon? I do just fine.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
A 30 gal is too big for one leo. If you get a bigger tank it should be a 20 gallon or 20 gallon long. And with a bigger tank you will need to buy a different UTH.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
I use 3 10 gal tanks as matter of fact. 2 of them for males and 1 of them has my youngest female leo in it. I have 0 problems with heating the tank and it has a great thermal gradient and theres plenty of decor in them and there is 3 hides in all of them and 1 of them is there moist hide. I only use UTH's to heat the tank and the ambient temps in the room itself drop to about 75 at nite. 10 gal is plenty enough room for a single leo as to much space can stress out your leos unless there is alot of places to hide and feel safe in.
Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
I will use a different UTH ofc lol.
Im worried about my leopard gecko now. She's 1 week in my place already she hides in her moist hide on the warm side all day long nver went out. When i tried looking in it she's up her eyes are open. Best suggestion ? I went to the petstore and told me that if maybe in her brumation stage no eating and hides 24/7.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
do you have a 2nd hide thats in the warm area of her tank or is it just the moist hide?
Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
How is it too big? I use 40-55 gallons for each of my geckos. They be chiling walking around looking proud. You must be looking at expired websites, lol Think about it, compare the size of the tank to the wild.tdedolph wrote:A 30 gal is too big for one leo. Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
its nothing to really be concerned about. She may be getting to shed or its just comfortable to her. i have prolly 3 leos that love to lay in there moist hides all the time
Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
That's tru you'll need more hides. I wish I had a digital camera, but here is a simple set up.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
My bad, I just made this thread longer. Hypoquiz your gecko is not going to want to eat unless you fix her temps. It can't be too hot or cold. Did you buy the thermometer with a probe attached?

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
Woops sorry about the misinformation, I don't know what I was thinking earlier haha. 30 gallons is fine but I personally wouldn't go much bigger.
I just know that snakes get easily stressed out if their viv is too big. If your leo is comfortable moving around a big viv in order to thermoregulate, then I wouldn't think there's anything wrong with a large enclosure. I guess it all depends on the temperament of your leo. Snakes and leos are 2 very different creatures, but they both need to thermoregulate, and they wont if they feel too uncomfortable going over to their cool side.
So hypoquiz, I would wait until your leo is comfortable with you before making such a drastic change to her home. It may take a while but she will be comfortable. And peach75 is right - the low and somewhat unstable temps are probably stressing her out so she won't want to eat. Low temps will also make it hard for her to digest when she does eat. Typically you should keep your temps stable around 92.
I know I keep saying this but it is important that you sort out your housing so that some big reasons for why she wouldn't be eating can be ruled out.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
Leo's are just like BPs in that regard, a large open area will stress them. So, more hides the better with bigger tanks.
Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
I just realize that she isnt afraid of me anymore she doesnt care being held she steps in to my hand now but still not eating. What should i do ? I tried crickets meal worms superworms still not eating. Help anyone?

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
just give her time. Leave mealworms in a dish that they cant escape from and shell go eat them when she gets hungry. If she does decide shes hungry and wants to it she will prolly do it when it starts to get dark out
Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
I would leave her be and the only times I would come near her is to replace the water or to offer food once a day.
If she still doesn't come around in about a week, you may want to contact a reptile vet.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
Also I forgot to ask, where did you get her from and what was she eating? She could be addicted to whatever they were giving her but you can still get her to eat mealworms or whatever you have planned for her because she should get hungry enough.

Re: Gecko sleeps 24/7
I think all the info we have provided is all we have. Some leos just get stressed and refuse to eat. She will eventually get hungry enough to eat. Keep offering once a day, only feed live insects, and if she still doesn't eat and he starts getting skinny, contact a vet.
Leos can endure a lot so she should be fine. I hope she eats soon.
