Overweight? Empty Overweight?

Post by jessmonster Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:14 pm

Hey everyone!
I just measured Randall's weight and it read 69 grams. He was 53 grams in September. Is he overweight or gaining too quickly? I'm not sure how old he is but it's estimated around 2 or 3. Please reply quickly. Rather worried.

Thanks

I can only see his head, but if you meant he is 2-3 years old and weigh 69 grams I doubt he is overweight.

That is a good weight for a full grown leo. Of course if you post a picture it is easier to see but it sounds like a good weight.

Make sure to take his weight after the next time he poops, you'd be surprised about the weight loss when they do poop.

16g growth in 4 months is fine, there's nothing wrong with that. 69g is also a fine weight for a normal adult sized leopard gecko. But when judging whether a gecko is obese or not, you need to look more at their body proportion. Check to see how fat their tails are compared to their body size, and whether they have protein bubbles in their armpits. If your gecko has an excessive fat tail plus armpit bubbles, then it's time to cut back on feeding.

i can show you my leo, he is a Giant, but still is over weight now, in a month he went from 110 to 126 grams, i have cut his food back to half the amount for the last 3 weeks, because he is still very fat. he is 1 year old now.

My tango is putting on an average of 2g a week lately she's only about 14months and weighs 63g at last weigh in, so yours sounds like its on a good track compared to my little fatty! I find that I'm not over feeding her either she eats maybe 6 crickets a day the gets bored... I prefer a fat gecko Smile

When i can get a decent photo of him ill be putting it as my avatar. He is cranky as of late, due to breeding season. He already bred with my adult female, but i just got in 3 new juvi leos, one is male, other two are female, and there tanks are close, but separate, he keeps trying to get at the other girls. lol
